About

Ann Aitchison

My introduction to working with glass started with stained glass this soon brought me to the beauty of fused glass my medium of choice. I'm drawn by the way the glass blends together, without the barrier of the lead. I still love the anticipation of opening the kiln and seeing how the glass has been transformed from individual pieces of sharp edges and angles to one smooth, shining, vibrant piece.

I'm inspired as much by bright colours and new shapes as I am by the world around me, so my collection includes rainbow pieces as well as those that reflect the more subtle colours of the Scottish seascapes, landscapes and flowers. Working with glass has taught me that impatience and glass simply do not mix! There's no rushing glass, the pieces won't always do as they are told and often need to be persuaded to fit into the shapes I want. Waiting for the kiln to heat the glass through its various stages, including the cooling process, demands a lot of self control! It can take days for some of the larger pieces to be ready, so patience is definitely my watchword!

All my glass is made with thought and care, I hope you enjoy owning it as much as I have enjoyed making it. If you like my work but are looking for a personalised piece, then please do get in touch. I'd be delighted to discuss your ideas.
